DATAS residency

Ljubljana, Slovenia
01 September – 30 October 2025

As part of the DATAS: Data and Sovereign residential program, we are hosting the fantastic little splash collective in September and October in Ljubljana.

The residency is a part of the DATAS: The Data and the Sovereign, an international art and research programme that brings together artists, theorists, and technologists to explore how digital infrastructures, AI, and algorithmic governance impact personal and political sovereignty. In an age where big data corporations and algorithmic systems increasingly shape global political and social dynamics, DATAS uses the lens of art to challenge the normalisation of surveillance, data extraction, and digital control.

During their residency, the artists will continue researching the voices of inauthentic actors who seek to polarize societies and radicalize political processes, particularly in Slovenia. In doing so, they will collaborate intensively with the local community and continue to develop the prototype of their latest project Infocry.

Public events during the residency:

Artist talk:
9 October 2025, 19:00
osmo/za, 8th floor, Slovenska 54, 1000 Ljubljana

At the talk, they will present their artistic practice, as well as talk about their ongoing research on the voices of inauthentic actors who seek to polarise societies and radicalise political processes, particularly in Slovenia. The artists and the visitors will discuss distorted perception systems, expanding cyberwar sensorium, and emotions as infrastructures.

Workshop:
29 October 29, 18:00–19:30
osmo/za, 8th floor, Slovenska 54, 1000 Ljubljana

The session will combine OSINT investigation methods, threat intelligence, journalism, and artistic research to identify how Russia’s emotional influence tactics are used in campaigns in Ukraine, the EU, and particularly in Slovenia.

In the first part of the workshop, the artist will present several cases from Ukraine and the EU in order to highlight tactics used by inauthentic actors, as well as methods to uncover them. In the second practical part, the participants will explore how similar tactics are employed in Slovenia. Together, we’ll try to identify and map key narratives and areas vulnerable to influence, and examine the specific local tone of voice used by these actors. The goal of the workshop is to document situated knowledge, which can help participants recognise how certain feelings might be targeted or amplified within influence campaigns.

You do not need any prior knowledge or skills to attend the workshop. The number of participants is limited, so please apply at lara@projekt-atol.si. The workshop will be held in English. Participation in the workshop is free.
